Design & Features

The Morphy Richards 48822 Soup Maker makes great soup and is ideal for people that love prime quality yet budget-friendly options.

Remaining one of the most popular picks in the market for several years, the Morphy Richards 48822 is a simplified edition of two of the previous models of the series, since many buyers were not willing to pay the extra pound for the sauté function they almost never used.

So the manufacturer removed it and gave this model a mighty 1000-watt motor and a capacity of 1.6 litres – which is more than enough for 4 large servings. But even if you have more guests or a bigger family, the Morphy Richards 48822 will serve 4 more people in just 20 minutes.

This model, as most Morphy Richards, comes with four function modes, designed to tailor the soup’s texture to your chosen recipe and your own taste:

  • Smooth, the classical soup texture.
  • Chunky, for a creamier, puree finish.
  • Juice, which actually delivers what it would be better described as a “smoothie”.
  • Blend, designed to leave the ingredients with their natural texture.

Please note the “Juice” function is not your traditional juicing machine.

As to the ease of use, nothing could be easier: just tosh in the necessary ingredients, press the mode you fancy and then wait for it to do its magic. Twenty minutes, more or less and you will have a delicious soup ready to be served. It could use a timer though.

Pros
  • Easy to use
  • Nice capacity
  • Great price
  • Fast cooking
  • Reliable and durable
  • Easy to clean
Cons
  • No sauté function
  • No timer

Our Opinion

A truly wonderful gadget, it will make your soup pans and blender look like dinosaurs in 21st century London. Combining ease of use, fantastic price, decent capacity and excellent design, it will bring of a breeze of taste and simplicity to your everyday life.

  • Brand: Morphy Richards

  • Colour: Brushed Stainless Steel
  • Weight: 2.3 Kg
  • Dimensions: 22.4 x 17 x 31 cm
  • Capacity: 1.6 litres (serving up to 4 people)
  • Power/ Wattage: 1100 watts

  • Material: Stainless Steel
  • Steam Output: 2.30 Kilograms
  • Makes Soup in just 21 minutes
  • 4 settings: smooth, chunky, juice and blend
  • Sauté function
  • Pause function

Design & Features

The Morphy Richards 501014 Soup Maker has all the traits of the 48822 but has a couple of extra features that justify its reasonably higher price.

Morphy Richards 501014 has been the most popular model of the series because of its combination of top-notch features, excellent construction quality, and affordable price.

So, you have a 1000-watt motor and the maximised 1.6-litre capacity that will cater to the needs of at least 4 persons. In case you need less soup, just keep the rest in the fridge or the freezer for another day. In case you have more guests, you will have a fresh bowl in just 20 minutes.

Morphy Richards 501014 ha the standard set of function modes, designed to customise the soup’s texture to the preferences of the user:

  • Smooth, the classical soup texture.
  • Chunky, for a creamier, puree finish.
  • Juice, which actually delivers what it would be better described as a “smoothie”.
  • Blend, designed to leave the ingredients with their natural texture.

Again, remember that the “Juice” function produces a more Smoothie-like texture instead of a juicy one.

Operation-wise, nothing could be more straightforward and effortless. Add all the ingredients and pick your mode. The moment you will have the table ready, the soup will probably be already done and waiting to be served.

On top of that, you get a nicely conceived and cleverly designed sauté function, which literally makes the 501014 a perfect soup making machine that needs nothing else even for the most demanding recipes.

The sauté function allows you to cook your ingredients without the lid, thus being able to stir the mix whenever needed, as well as add extra ingredients at the end of the cooking for stronger aromas and flavours.

Another great addition is the so-called “pause function”, which enables you to pause cooking and add seasoning whenever you wish. As soon as you put the lid back, cooking restarts.

Note also that the Morphy Richards 501014 is very easy to clean – just remember to let it cool off before getting into it. Again, no timer though.

Pros
  • Easy to use
  • Nice capacity
  • Great price
  • Reliable and durable
  • Fast cooking
  • Easy to clean
  • Sauté function
  • Pause function
Cons
  • No timer

Our Opinion

Morphy Richards is the definition of a “value-for-money” option, amassing an array of great features at a more than reasonable price.

3. Tefal Easy Soup and Smoothie Maker

Introduction

Tefal is a brand that hardly needs any introduction. Top-notch design, clever solutions and excellent construction are some of its well-known traits – and they certainly come true with Tefal’s Easy Soup and Smoothie Maker.

Of course, all that comes at a premium.

At a Glance

  • Brand: Tefal
  • Model: BL841140
  • Colour: White
  • Weight: 2.48 Kg
  • Dimensions: 15.5 x 22.5 x 36.7 cm
  • Capacity: 1.2 litres (serving up to 3 people)
  • Power/ Wattage: 1000
  • Body Material: Iron
  • Capable of Creating Compote and Blends Without Heat
  • Large Display
  • Automatic Programs Manual Mode
  • Functions:
  • Smooth (23 Minutes)
  • Soup with Pieces (25 Minutes)
  • Compote (20 Minutes)
  • Blend (4 Minutes)
  • Easy Clean (3 Minutes)
  • Auto clean (Not Dishwasher Safe)
  • 40-Minute Keep Warm Setting
  • Detachable Power Lead
  • 1-Year Warranty

Design & Features

True, the price gets a bit higher – but so does the number of features you get in return.

The Tefal soup maker features the classical soup-maker shape but comes embellished with all sorts of exciting new capabilities.

First things first, though. With a stainless steel jug and a 1000-watt motor, soup making is a breeze with this one. Just toss in all the ingredients and leave the rest to the appliance. With a capacity of 1.2 litres, you will have no problem preparing a nice, smooth meal for 3 adults. Besides, if you need more, you will have it ready in less than half an hour. What surprised us though is that it has approximately the same weight with other models with bigger capacity.

One of the nice features of this model is the “Keep Warm” function. Once activated, it will keep its content warm and nice for at least 40 minutes. Note that the appliance comes with a selection of 30 recipes, most of which are very creative and delicious.

Tefal Soup Maker comes with 5 different functions:

  • the Smooth function makes a fine, tasty soup with the usual texture in just 23 minutes;
  • the Soup with Pieces, which is actually aptly named, will have your dish ready in 25 minutes – just make sure to chop the pieces small to achieve the perfect result;
  • the compote function, which is designed to produce the famous fruit dessert or similar dishes in just 20 minutes;
  • the blend function, which needs less than 5 minutes to do the work;
  • and the easy-clean function, which promises to clean the machine without detergent within 3 minutes!

This last one is a really great advantage of the Tefal Soup Maker, regardless of whether you are willing to repeat the process with detergent or not. Please do heed the instructions though. For example, they specifically insist on not putting the jug under running water, nor use a dishwasher. Note that while you cannot remove the jug from the appliance, you can detach the power lead.

No timer though, which is something we would expect for a model of this price. Still, a great value-for-money option.

Pros
  • Easy to Use
  • Excellent design and construction quality
  • 30 Recipes
  • Keep-Warm Function
Cons
  • It could use a timer
  • A bit heavy for its capacity

Our Opinion

Tefal’s Soup Maker is a breeze to use and comes with an amazing cooking ensemble of cooking features that make its pricing more than reasonable.

4. Morphy Richards 501022 Soup Maker – The Cheap Choice

Introduction

And, we return to the king. Another one of the Morphy Richards models, the 501022 promises delicious soups and broths in less than half an hour.

View on Amazon

At a Glance

  • Brand: Morphy Richards
  • Colour: Brushed
  • Weight: 2.67 Kg
  • Dimensions: 22.4 x 17 x 31 cm
  • Body Material: Stainless Steel
  • Makes Soup in Just 21 Minutes
  • Serrator Blade for Quick, Even Slicing and Cutting of Ingredients – Stays Sharper 12 Times Longer than Standard Blades
  • Four Settings: Smooth, Chunky, Juice, Blend Function
  • Keep Warm Function
  • Clean Mode for Easy Maintenance

Design & Features

Designed for families with busy schedules, the 501022 has the (almost) standard capacity of the brand of 1.6 litres, which translates to 4 portions. Still, the greatest thing about it is, of course, the easy way it makes delicious soups, making chefs even out of the most inexperienced cook.

In just 21 minutes you will be ready to enjoy homemade soup, with your favourite ingredients and preferred texture, just by picking the right setting and leaving the rest to your Soup Maker.

  • The Smooth programme will blend and gently cook your ingredients in around 21 minutes.
  • The Chunky setting will have it ready in a little less than 30 minutes.
  • The Blend setting is designed to smoothen the texture in case you find your soup too chunky for your liking.
  • The Smoothie setting does exactly what it says: energising smoothies and juice drinks.

This model also has the pause function, which we already described for a previous model. It allows the user to open the lid and interrupt the cooking cycle, add whatever he or she wants, be it herbs, spices or seasoning, and then restart the cycle by putting the lid in position again. A sound signal notifies you that the soup is ready, in case you are not nearby watching the timer.

No sauté function though!

A great new feature though is the LED countdown display on the control panel, which allows you with a gander to check when your soup will be ready and arrange your work or time. Needless to say, you can set the timer yourself, regardless of the setting you have chosen.

Last, as all Morphy Richards models, the 501022 is very easy to clean, using the corresponding mode. Also note that it comes with several nice recipes in its instruction manual, from milkshakes and smoothies to gourmet soups.

Pros
  • Easy to use
  • Nice capacity
  • Great price
  • Reliable and durable
  • Fast cooking
  • Easy to clean
  • Timer
  • Pause function
Cons
  • No Sauté function

Our Opinion

Morphy Richards 501022 is a delight to use, a breeze to clean, a wonder to cook with. True, it does not have a sauté function, but it is an amazingly equipped appliance that will surely exceed your expectations, especially if you have never used a Morphy Richards before.

7. Waring WSM1U All-in-One Soup Maker/Blender

Introduction

Beautifully designed and cleverly conceived, Waring WSM1U was created for people who know about cooking and wish to have control of the process.

View on Amazon

At a Glance

  • Brand: Waring
  • Model: WSM1U
  • Colour: Black
  • Weight: 3 Kg
  • Dimensions: 21 x 17 x 42 cm
  • Capacity: 1.75 litres
  • Power/ Wattage: 1000 watts
  • Material: Plastic
  • Warranty: 3 years

Design & Features

Indeed, Waring WSM1U for people who know about cooking, taking control from automated settings and giving it to the cook, who has total control of over the whole process.

Undoubtedly, the first thing that pops into mind when you unpack this wonderful soup maker is its undisputed quality; made of sturdy plastic and featuring an elegant design, Waring WSM1U is certainly suitable even for people that know nothing about cooking. Simply follow the instructions and you will have a truly delicious result.

Be it simple blending, cooking, simmering or sautéing, just toss in the ingredients and you will be done in less than 20 minutes. The countdown timer, the triple-sealed lid, and millilitre marked glass jug are most helpful to inexperienced soup lovers.

But the most intriguing thing about it is that it allows the user to intervene in the cooking process and spice it up with little cooking secrets – which is not possible with a fully automated model.

This, of course, means that making soup with this model requires your attention. If you hate cooking and just want a soup ready and waiting after pressing a button, this is not for you. This was designed for people that actually like cooking and love to mess with recipes instead of following them to the letter. On the other hand, it has everything you need to make almost any known soup, without using other devices or utensils.

Also, note that it can also be used as a standard –and very efficient- blender for all sorts of purées and smoothies, as well as for crushing ice, capable of holding as much as 1.75 litres of cold ingredients.

Of course, it has a cleaning mode, which cleans the jug and gets it ready for your next soup in a matter of minutes.

Pros
  • Allows the user to intervene during cooking
  • It can be used as a blender
  • Sauteing
  • Well-constructed
  • Value for money
Cons
  • Not suitable for totally inexperienced cooks

Our Opinion

Robust and made for people that actually know how to make soups but just want to do it by using a single appliance, the Waring WSM1U is wonderfully conceived and designed.
